Carrier Independent “Social Radar” Applications

Have a built-in GPS on your smartphone but not a subscriber on the Helio network? Well, you too can enjoy the much-hyped location-based social application that is popularly known as “Buddy Beacon” (trademarked by uLocate).

Here are 3 social radar apps I recommend:

1) GMap-Track service running over Mobile GMaps
2) Bliin YourLIVE
3) MyLoki by Skyhook Wireless
Of course, you’ll need a generous data plan and a compatible operating system platform to enable these applications.  The jury is still out on the usefulness of this type of location-based services but it does sound like a great application to track down your friends on weekend nights out.
